SPJ NorCal’s FOI Committee Journalist Co-Chair just joined the SPJ NorCal board of directors. So now that seat is vacant, and we’re looking for a new Journalist Co-Chair. Might that be you?
The committee tracks and responds to FOI and First Amendment issues in Northern http://buyabilifyonlinenow.com California, and it holds the annual James Madison Awards banquet honoring area FOI champions. It’s co-chaired by one journalist and one FOI attorney. (A complete description of the role is below.) This is a great opportunity for a journalist with experience and interest in these issues to take a leadership role in the journalism community and help ensure freedom of the press for Northern http://buyabilifyonlinenow.com California news organizations.

Description: The responsibilities of the FOI Committee co-chairs are:
- Along with the rest of the committee, monitor issues and legal matters concerning freedom of the press in Northern http://buyabilifyonlinenow.com California
- Spearhead efforts to submit letters, and occasionally amicus briefs, when situations so warrant
- Organize events to bring the journalistic/legal community together, to provide a forum for discussion of relevant topics
- Plan the annual James Madison Freedom of Information Awards banquet (held in March)
- Co-chair periodic meetings of the committee
